Tired eyes treatments: brightening and tightening the skin

18th January 2019

If the eyes truly are the window to the soul, then you don’t want yours to appear tired or disinterested or hollow. We want to look awake and vibrant and bursting with enthusiasm and energy! Historically, the eye area has been difficult to treat because of its sensitive underlying structures, thin skin, and unique approach it needs. Here’s some tired eyes treatments you might like to revive the windows to your soul!

Tear trough fillers

Dermal fillers continue to be a popular non-surgical treatment, and their uses have extended far beyond the lips and cheeks. The tear troughs are the crescent moon hollows beneath your eyes. For some people these hollows are hardly hollow, but for others they truly do appear a little sunken. This is partially because of how naturally thin the skin is here and partially through volume and structure loss that pulls this tissue downwards too. These hollows can appear dark because of the thin skin showing the underling muscles and blood vessels. Tear trough fillers help to soften the appearance of these hollows by a) plumping the skin to fill them out and b) putting more volume and structure between the skin’s surface and the muscles, lessening their dark appearance. If your eyes permanently look a little tired and sunken despite a good night’s sleep, you might find your answer in tear trough fillers.

Juvederm Volite dermal filler

Another use for dermal fillers, specifically Juvederm, is to boost the hydration and quality of tired and dull skin. Juvederm has a range of high-quality dermal fillers, but Volite breeches the gap between skin treatment and dermal filler. It doesn’t ‘fill’ the area to make it plump and structured, but rather it hydrates and moisturises from the inside-out. This is achieved through a series of tiny injections placed in a grid formation throughout the treatment area (for example: the mid-face, cheeks, and around the eyes). Allergan reports that it can improve the skin’s smoothness, reduce fine lines, hydrate, and improve elasticity for up to 9 months with just one treatment. One of our tired eyes treatments, this works to subtly improve the appearance and texture of the skin around the eye area without introducing too much ‘filler’ to the area.

Tired eyes products

One product range of note is ELASTIderm® by Obagi. These products firm the skin around the eyes with clinically proven ingredients, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines, improve elasticity, and promote smoother skin. This comes in the form of an eye cream suitable for everyday use, and a potent serum with added caffeine to help minimise the appearance of under-eye puffiness. While this isn’t technically counted as one of our tired eyes treatments, it is a much-loved skincare product produced by one of the world’s leading skincare and skin health companies.
