How dermal fillers help with ageing skin

27th June 2019

With the ageing process being something, no one can really stop in occurring regardless of how well we take care our skin in our 20’s and 30’s. There are some factors that accelerating the ageing process such as sun damage and smoking. Both of these lifestyle aspects can encourage the premature breakdown of skin structures, but what if there were a way to possibly instigate them again? We discover how dermal fillers help improve the appearance of ageing skin.

The science of ageing skin

In our 20’s we stop producing collagen, a natural occurring skin protein. This protein is essential to youthful looking and feeling skin, aiding us with laxity and firmness. As we approach our 30’s, the remaining levels of collagen begin to decline, leading to thinning skin, loss of facial structure, and the resultant wrinkles. Collagen degradation can be accelerated by factors such as sun damage, air pollution and the level we take care of our skin. When loss of volume occurs within the skin, it becomes loose and loses its structure. This is due to gravity pulling down on your skin into folds and sags that rob us of facial contour. The remaining structure or skin tissue is heavier than the thinning skin, so this tends to fall downloads too and create facial folds around the mouth and jowls.

How dermal fillers can resist the appearance of ageing skin

Ageing skin will become thin, loosened and loses its structure, and dermal fillers will help reverse all of these to an extent. Because its sole purpose is to fill, it will help by adding a little more substance and volume to the areas that are affected, softening facial folds and adding more structural definition to the skin.

Tear trough fillers

An advanced treatment that can have become incredibly popular in recent times. Your skin is the thinnest beneath your eyes, but as your skin it’s volume it can sometimes appear to cling onto your sockets. Using very fine injections of dermal fillers, we can help add more volume to this skin to subtly define the targeted area, filling an area of thin skin to improve the appearance of tired eyes.

Sunken or hollow cheeks

Another common treatment area that unfortunately see the witness of decline in skin quality. Because the apples of our cheeks are naturally quite fleshy, and are situated mid face, the declining skin quality pulls this area downwards rapidly. This leads to loss of facial structure in areas like the cheek bones and also contributes to jowls in the lower face. Injections of dermal fillers in these areas can help to add more contour to the cheeks as well as filling unwanted hollows.
