As long as you’re not prone to allergies or have overly sensitive skin, then there is no reason you shouldn’t be using Retinol. But do you need to?
Retinol can be an effective, quick, easy treatment – it helps reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and wrinkles, improves skin moisture and treats acne. It also helps to clear pores, exfoliate, and smooth skin.
Can anyone use it?
Retinol is suitable for most skin types, but those with fair or sensitive skin should exercise caution because it may be more challenging to adjust to the powerful ingredient.
However, it is advised for those who have skin over-exfoliated by treatments at home or in a clinic or skin with sun damage. Additionally, it should be noted pregnant women should not use Retinol.
How should I use Retinol?
Usually, people start using Retinol from the mid to late twenties onwards. Once we reach our thirties, our collagen levels start decreasing slightly, so incorporating this into your skincare regime early can benefit your skin immensely.
It would help if you started with a weaker strength of Retinol and gradually increased this once your skin feels like it can tolerate it more. This also applies to the rate you should use it each week, so for example, you should start using it around once/twice a week until you can tolerate using it every other day. Once you have reached this stage, you can continue to use this long-term or whenever you need to improve your skin texture. It is advised not to use Retinol before or after prolonged exposure to the sun, as this can increase pigmentation on your skin.
Can I order Retinol on your website?
Yes, you can. However, we recommend you discuss this with either Dr Nicole or our Aesthetic Practitioner, Jelena, first.
