How many treatments do I need? How long do the results last? Do I need a consultation?
All valid questions, and amongst some of our most of our most asked queries. Face thread veins, rosacea redness, red acne marks, and minor acne can all be treated with intense pulse light (IPL). The IPL therapy targets the skin’s blood vessels, pigmentation, and collagen, providing three benefits in one session: reduction of redness, reduction of pigmentation (due to freckles), and reduction of skin firmness. If you want to balance out your skin tone while also enhancing the firmness of your skin, this is the treatment for you.
Let’s begin the Q&A:
What if I know exactly what I want? Do I still need a consultation?
It’s usually a good idea to schedule a consultation beforehand to talk about your goals and expectations. With IPL, we can then personalise your treatment to your needs. To attain the best results, a combination of therapies may be required. To ensure you are completely informed before proceeding with any procedure, the relevant treatment choices will be explained, as well as the potential benefits and dangers.
Do the treatments take a long time?
It takes less than an hour to complete this process. After the first session, most people notice a slight improvement. Our Consultant Dermatologist and laser practitioner may recommend a series of 3-6 sessions to achieve the greatest results, depending on your skin issues. Treatment is normally done every two to six weeks.
Are there any side effects to IPL?
Most persons will appear to have a mild to moderate sunburn immediately after treatment. Rarely, there can be a mild sunburn reaction with redness and mild swelling. It’s possible that your skin will feel hotter and tighter than usual. There may be some flakiness and bronzing. It could take up to a week for your skin to fully heal and become brighter and cleaner.
What should I expect from IPL, how does it feel?
During treatment, a warm, heating sensation is felt along with some slight stinging. This is a brief sensation. You may also see a bright light even with your eyes covered. Please be assured that your eyes are safe as they are protected by metal goggles.
After treatment, your skin may be slightly red, and depending on the technologies used, some bronzing and flakiness may occur.
How long can I expect my results to last?
To achieve the best results, a series of treatments (3-6) may be required. When you complete your full treatment course, the benefits are usually longer-lasting, lasting 6-12 months or longer depending on your lifestyle and exposures to the triggering factors for your condition. In general, we recommend a maintenance IPL session every 6 months.
