We’re all told from a young age that getting enough Vitamin C is crucial for us if we want to have a good immune system so we can be big and strong…
…but did you know it can also be fantastic for your skin too?
With the capacity to fight visible signs of ageing, hyperpigmentation, and redness, let’s look at why vitamin C is a trusted element in many skin care routines and how you should use it for the best effects.
So explain what is Vitamin C serum…
Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant naturally found in fruits and vegetables and is now frequently synthesised for use in skincare serums. Vitamin C and its derivatives are commonly utilised in cosmetics, but natural vitamin C in the form of l-ascorbic acid has received the most attention in terms of research.
What are some of the benefits of using Vitamin C serum?
Because of their capacity to neutralise free radicals created by environmental aggressors such as UV radiation and pollution, vitamin C and other antioxidants are utilised in cosmetics. Free radicals are unstable chemicals that can cause sickness and ageing by damaging components such as lipids in cell membranes. Using vitamin C helps to maintain cell health by:
- Shielding the skin from irritation, inflammation, and pollutants
- Collaborating with your sunscreen to provide superior UV ray protection for your skin.
- Reduces the appearance of sun damage and hyperpigmentation, brightening dull or blotchy skin.
How often do I need to apply Vitamin C serum?
While vitamin C serves a critical defensive role against the environment, it is advised that it works best as part of a healthy daytime routine. Vitamin C remains active on the skin for 24 hours. Therefore, a once-daily application is adequate. It is entirely safe to use while trying to conceive, pregnant, or breastfeeding. To be effective in the skin, l-ascorbic acid must be formulated at a pH of 3.5, which is highly acidic and may be irritating if you have extremely sensitive or reactive skin. Patch test first to determine how your skin reacts.
Which Vitamin C serums would you recommend?
While finding the best-suited Vitamin C serum for your skin, we recommend our dermatologist Dr Nicole or our aesthetic practitioner Jelena take a look at your skin first. They will be able to decipher things like the percentage of the serum or how to introduce it into your skincare regime – both crucial bits of advice to ensure you get the best results.
