Cleanse your skin, cleanse your lifestyle with this Skincare Routine!
It’s officially 2024, and like most of us, you’re probably already back or soon to be back at work. While it can be all fun and games over the festive period, our skin care can occasionally slip, and we fall out of our crucial routines.
Scrap what you’ve heard on TikTok, forget what you’ve read in magazines…
We will make you a back-to-basics skincare routine that you can easily stick to in the new year. Just some admin before we start: this is a basic skincare routine that is suitable for ALL skincare types; if you’ve found you have more specialist skincare interests (e.g., oily or dry skin), you can easily add in the necessary toners, serums, retinoids during our “add your own” step. We recommend seeking expert advice before starting retinoids and serums, as these aren’t suitable for all skin types.
Step 1 – Cleanse
This is the most obvious step, right? Clean your face, OBVIOUSLY. However, many social media myths say you shouldn’t cleanse every day or only need to cleanse at night. Well, as experts, we say ignore this and make sure you cleanse twice a day. While over-exfoliating can strip your skin of natural oils, cleansing will be less harsh. Still, it is highly beneficial as it removes dirt, excess oil, and other impurities. We recommend a gentle cleanser as this is the best overall cleanser for all skin types; our recommendation is the Obagi – Gentle Cleanser, which costs £50.00
Add as needed – Toner
Only some people need a toner as it can often overload ingredients we use elsewhere. For example, Niacinamide tends to be popular in toners, but many of us already use this in our serums. Ultimately, toners are great for balancing your skin tone, but if you’re unsure, check with an expert to see whether it is necessary.
Add as needed – Serums
Serums can be a great way to tailor your skincare routine to your specific needs. Find your skin is overly oily? Niacinamide can help. Are you worried your skin is too dry? Hyaluronic acid can be a godsend. As with toners, please check with an expert before introducing serums into your routine, as they’re not always suitable for your skin.
Step 2 – Moisturise
Investing in a good quality moisturiser is the second most vital part of your skincare routine. If you want your skin to look fresh, youthful and hydrated, use moisturiser twice a day, once when you wake up and once before bed. As with all skincare, different skin types require different moisturisers. Oily skin works best with gel moisturisers, whereas dry skin works better with rich cream moisturisers. Our recommendation for a good “meet-in-the-middle” lightweight moisturiser suitable for all skin types is Obagi – Hydrate®, which costs £45.00.
Step 3 -SPF
The last step should always be SPF. If there is one thing you take away from this blog, please let it be the reminder to use SPF every day – even on dull days. SPF is crucial for protecting our skin, and the skin on our face is the most exposed anywhere on our body, so we want to ensure we look after it. We always recommend a good lightweight SPF that protects the skin without feeling chalky (and works well with make-up, if you wear it), like the Lynton Light Protect SPF50, which costs £30.00.
