Heatwave skin care: How can I protect my skin in the upcoming heatwave?

16th July 2022

I’m sure by now you will have all heard about the up-coming heatwave in the next few days. I’m also sure you will have read multiple headlines about how dangerous it could potentially be if we’re not prepared.

Well, whilst we can’t control mother nature’s erratic behaviour we can give you some useful tips to stay safe in the sun.

PROTECT THE SKIN!

– Make sure to always apply a decent SPF lotion with a factor between 30-50.

We recommend: Lynton Light Protect SPF 50

– Apply this around half an hour before your exposure to the sun so your skin is able to take it all in.

– When choosing an SPF make sure it protects against both UVA and UVB radiation.

– Reapply this every couple of hours, or if it has been washed off due to things like swimming. Even SPF lotions that say they are water proof can still lose their effectiveness after being expose to water so it’s better to keep yourself topped up.

TRY TO STAY SHADED

– Try to limited your exposure to sun between the hours of 11am and 3pm as this is when the sun will be at it’s most intense.

– If you have sensitive skin it’s best to try and stay in the shade as much as possible, as prolonged exposure to the sun can lead to large levels of discomfort with your skin.

– If needed cover your skin with light airy clothing as this can add an extra layer of protection.

HYDRATE YOUR SKIN

– There is nothing better for your skin when it’s sunny than keeping it hydrated. Try to keep your self topped up with water at all times as not only does this hydrate your skin, but it keeps you cool and stops you feeling dizzy/faint.

– Wear a hydrating moisturiser.

– Run wrists under the cold tap, this helps regulate your body’s temperature and cool yourself down.
