Anti-Wrinkle Injections Vs Dermal Fillers

13th December 2020

In this post, our dermatolgists here in Manchester shine the spotlight on two anti-ageing wonders that have taken the beauty world by storm: dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections. Here, we’ll break down the similarities and differences between them, to help you make an informed choice about treatment. Don’t forget that a consultation at our skin clinicis essential before booking your treatment.

Differences

Anti-wrinkle injections have a whole host of uses. From medical applications (think hyperhidrosis, headaches and bladder problems) to aesthetics (banishing wrinkles and restoring a youthful complexion), there’s increasing applications for the treatment and the results speak for themselves.

Dermal fillers, however, are limited to a beauty capacity – though they still have an impressive range (more on this below). As well as differences in use, the two treatments also have a difference in ingredients. Anti-wrinkle injectionsare sometimes referred to as ‘botox’, while dermal fillers are hyaluronic-acid based.

Uses

Lines and wrinkles – both treatments can help target signs of lines and wrinkles. While dermal fillers can help plump and smooth the skin, ‘filling’ these areas, anti-wrinkle injections prevent or weaken the associated muscles, so wrinkles appear less prominent. Typically, fillers are used for the bottom half of the face and anti-wrinkle treatment for the top.

Volume – loss of volume is a key sign of ageing. Thankfully, dermal fillers can help plump the skin and negate any sagging or loss of elasticity.

Shaping – again, dermal fillers are a fantastic treatment for this aesthetic concern, from refining the silhouette of the nose, to helping boost the lips.

If you’re interested in trying out either one of these treatments, please do not hesitate to contact us today.
