How to prepare for my Cutera Excel V+ appointment

10th October 2023

So you’ve booked in for your first session of Cutera laser with us, which is a great choice. You’re going to love this treatment.

But you’re now wondering if there is anything you need to do to prepare for your appointment, right?

Well, we’ve put together some critical bits of information for you to read before your appointment to ensure you’re all fine and ready to go on the day (i.e. you won’t have to skip your appointment because you’ve been sitting in the sun too long).

Tans are a NO-GO

There ought to be no visible or artificial tanning in the treatment area. Sunbeds and prolonged exposure to sunlight are not permitted in the month preceding treatment, and an SPF of at least 30 needs to be applied on the region between treatments.

Before treatment starts, the suntans must disappear entirely. Artificial tans must also be completely gone before therapy can begin. It usually takes at least two weeks for a suntan or sunburn to fade. We recommend delaying treatment for four weeks if you have been on a sunny vacation.

Don’t get turned away!

We have the right to refuse treatment if you arrive at your appointment with a sun tan or a sunburn.

Parback your skincare routine before your appointment.

All skin irritants (glycolic/salicylic acids, benzoyl peroxide, retinol, and tretinoin products) must be discontinued one week before/after your treatment.

Let us know anything medical.

A medical record is gathered during the consultation, but we trust you to update us on any changes. We must be aware of any medications you take, including those obtained from a pharmacy or herbalist.

You’ll need a patch test (if you haven’t already had one)

A week before the treatment, test patches are applied to assess the parameters and how your skin will react to the entire treatment. A test patch is a tiny experiment in a location with hair and skin similar to the treatment location. This enables the practitioner to determine how efficiently the light energy is used and whether the skin responds as intended. Typical reactions include mild redness, swelling, darkening of vessels or pigmented lesions, and possibly bruising.
