Dermal Fillers: Before & After

BEFORE

There are lots of things to take on board in the run-up to your dermal fillers treatment. Our quick prep steps include avoiding the following:
– Blood-thinning medicines (such as aspirin or ibuprofen)
– Particular supplements (including vitamin E)
– Anti-ageing treatments and hair removal treatments
– Alcohol (24 hours beforehand)
If you wish to be injected in or around the lip area, and suffer from bouts of cold sores, we recommend talking to our dermatologists about this, as the treatment could cause an outbreak. Finally, those with certain medical conditions, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, are not advised to have dermal fillers.

AFTER

To get the most out of treatment, there are a few aftercare steps we highly recommend. These include:

– Easing swelling with ice packs (ensure ice never comes into direct contact with skin)
– Using over-the-counter pain relief, such as paracetamol
– Avoiding touching the treated areas (unless gently massaging any lumps)
– Avoiding sunbeds, saunas, wax and other heat treatments until swelling subsides
– Temporarily avoiding alcohol and exercise to prevent bruising
– Daily use of sunscreen

A word of warning

Despite the high level of care given by our dermatologists, and both our expertise and stringent following of industry best practice here at our Manchester skin clinic, it’s possible you may develop side-effects from dermal filler treatment. Get in touch if you experience any signs of fever, notice blotchy skin, look/feel red/hot, or have severe pain.
