Have you noticed that your lips become chapped and your skin feels especially dryer though the winter months? You may have thought it was due to cold breezes hitting your face or that your skin is dehydrated from huddling by the fireplace, however this isn’t the case. The real cause for this is the change in your protein levels. A study that was taken using individuals between the ages of 18 – 70 to show that due to winter weather and a drop in temperature, the outermost skin layer of their hands and cheeks were affected by a fluctuation in protein levels. As well as dry skin, existing skin conditions like eczema and rosacea are also aggravated in the winter time for the same reason.
Here at Lumiere, we appreciate and encourage all clients to understand the importance of looking after your skin all year round. If you can maintain your healthy glow throughout the winter months then you won’t be playing catch up when Spring comes around. So, in order to help you maintain great skin, we recommend two winter skincare treatments that will give you a boost at this time of year:
Chemical peels
A skin peel involves an acidic solution being painted onto the skin area you’d like to target, with a view to causing an exfoliation of the surface layer here. You might wish to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, age spots and other pigmentation problems, or you might be looking to gain a more even skin contour.
We offer a variety of chemical peels to deal with each of these problems individually. They vary in strength. A superficial skin peel will strip away only the very surface layer of skin cells, while more intense concentrations of peel solutions will penetrate deeper. Nu-Derm, Obagi Blue and Mesoestetic peels are designed for anti-ageing, while Dermalan is specifically for pigmentation concerns. Acnelan, as the name suggests, is for use on acne-scarred skin.
Following treatment, and once any redness has subsided, your skin should have a healthier glow and be younger looking. The boost to your collagen levels that the peel provokes will give you firmer skin with more elasticity. In some cases, a peel can also have a thickening effect, giving you more youthful-looking skin volume in areas of the face which are thinning. This kind of chemical exfoliation helps to slough away dead, dry, and damaged skin cells, making a chemical peel an ideal winter skincare treatment.
PRP Therapy
PRP therapy, which is also known as a vampire facial, may strike you as an odd concept, but given the success it’s had on sports athletes; repairing their skin, it’s no wonder that people are jumping at the chance to achieve a successful rejuvenation and healthier skin glow in this way. During PRP therapy in Manchester, blood will be removed from one part of your body and spun in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells and the platelets. The platelets are then reinjected into a targeted area of your face to encourage collagen production and new cell growth for healthier, fresher skin tissue.
