The Cutera Enlighten SR uses a non-thermal, photo-acoustic way with ultra-short, picosecond pulse durations to create shockwaves that shatter pigments in the skin without damaging the surrounding tissue. This is an excellent laser choice for patients with darker skin types. With the ultra-short pulse durations (one trillionth of a second long), this laser is most effective at treating pigmentation whilst also inducing dermal remodelling for skin rejuvenation.  This advanced laser platform has three modes of actions: tattoo removal, treatment for pigmentation (Picogenesis) and overall skin rejuvenation (Picogenesis Fx).  

Unlike conventional lasers or Q-switched lasers that require multiple treatment sessions and often lead to significant downtime, this picosecond technology is more effective at treating pigmentation and safer for all skin types (including the darker skin types). It can provide a brighter, more uniform complexion within 30 minutes—and all with little downtime! The picolaser technology is also more effective at removing tattoos with fewer treatment sessions than a q-switched laser. With regards to its rejuvenation effect, the Picogenesis Fx mode is an alternative to the traditional CO2 resurfacing laser with lesser aggressive downtime, and more effect on achieving a brighter skin tone.
