Uneven skin tone or pigmentation is one of the most common skin problems that a Dermatologist deals with. It is usually due to uncontrolled, localised overproduction of melanin by melanocytes. There are a range of causes such as melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, sun damage and vitiligo.
At Lumiere Clinic, we have an expert in the form of a Consultant Dermatologist who is experienced in treating uneven skin tone and pigmentation. At your consultation, we will work out the cause and triggers for your pigmentation problems. It is important to establish the diagnosis of the pigmentation, whether it is due to melasma, post-inflammatory pigmentation, sun spots (solar lentigines) or other rarer conditions. We perform a detailed skin examination with dermoscopy and skin analysis to determine the extent and depth of pigmentation. We offer a combination of medical and/or cosmetic treatments. Often, a combination approach is used to achieve the best results.
While most over-the-counter creams have limited effectiveness as they work only on the surface of the skin, products and treatments that we recommend at Lumiere Clinic are medical grade which work to ensure deeper penetration of active ingredients for best results.
We offer the following treatments:
We offer the OBAGI Nu-Derm® Transformation System which is an effective treatment for pigmentation.* The system incorporates two prescriptive ingredients to transform skin with brown spots and rough texture to skin that looks even, younger and healthier. Generally, treatment lasts for 18 to 24 weeks followed by a maintenance phase with regular sun protection. As the system contains prescriptive medications, during the course of treatment, you will be monitored at 6-8 weekly intervals to ensure that you are making progress with your treatments.
We also offer the Dermamelan® medical grade skin peel which can only be performed by doctors. This peel works wonderfully for all skin types with pigmentation due to sun spots, melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Two weeks of skin preparation is required followed by a mini skin peel two days before the Dermamelan® mask is applied. The mask is then left on for 8-12 hours depending on your skin type. There will be some downtime about 1-2 weeks post-treatment, and maintenance treatments need to be carried out for 12 months thereafter to reduce the risk of pigmentation returning. You will be monitored at regular intervals during the course of this treatment.
We have other skin-lightening creams to help improve your pigmentation if the OBAGI Nu-Derm® and Dermamelan® skin peel are not appropriate for you.

Skin peels
We offer the Dermamelan peel which contains an exclusive combination of active substances with proven efficacy to treat all phases of the hyperpigmentation process. It eliminates existing hyperpigmentation, prevents its reappearance and stops the appearance of new dark spots. Treatment consists of 4 phases:
Phase 1: intensive depigmentation
Phase 2: continuous depigmentation
Phase 3: pigmentation regulation
Phase 4: reappearance control
The process starts with an in-office treatment, followed by home treatment.
Another effective treatment for pigmentation is the Obagi Blue Peel, which is a TCA peel. It accelerates the results that can be achieved with the OBAGI Nu-Derm® Transformation System. It works by effectively removing layers of aged and damaged skin, allowing the healthier skin to resurface.
Medical Grade Intense-Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment for pigmentation
We offer medical-grade IPL treatments for freckles and age dark spots. By using specific a range of wavelengths or colours of light, we target and destroy pigments in the skin. Over time, the excess pigment gradually fades. A consultation is required to determine if you are suitable for this treatment. A number of treatment sessions is usually required for best results.
